Acanthocereus tetragonus


Description: 

The Acanthocereus tetragonus is a tall, columnar cactus that reaches an approximate mature height of 15' - 20'. It sports sprawling/clambering or arching-accumbent stems. If given perfect conditions, this cactus can grow 2' - 3' annually! Hardy to approximately 20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Ribs are sharply-angled. On mature specimens, there are typically 3 stems with 4-5 on juvenile specimens. Spines can be variable, but there are typically 8 per areole. Spines are 1" - 2" in length.

White flowers bloom nocturnally. When completely open, these gorgeous flowers have an approximate diameter of 5" - 7". Inner tepals are pure white, exuding a slight fragrance. Fruits are shiny, red and edible (sweet). Its fruit is a type of Dragon Fruit.
