Agave americana var. Marginata

Description:

Agave americana 'Marginata' is a large, rosette-forming succulent. Its leaves are upright and are slightly wavy. They are gray-green in color with strong cream colored to yellow margins (see pictures above). Similarly to other Agave americana species, its flowers are a beautiful shade of greenish-yellow. It is slower growing than its cousin, the Agave americana.

The Agave americana 'Marginata' can thrive in full sun (denser leaf), or in partial shade (skinnier blade). This plant appreciates ample space to grow and mature. It is a good candidate to be placed on a hillside. It likes fertilizer and mulch is an OK medium.

This Agave grows from center folds, producing leaves from the center that die at the bottom. Carefully trim with a saw or a very sharp knife. To keep from freezing, cover the plant with a tarp or blanket. Depending on its size, it may be necessary to prop the blanket/tarp up with a stick to stop it from crushing the plant.
